Japanese American history is grossly underrepresented in the U.S., and the information taught is often skewed and misrepresented. Here are some facts about Japanese American History on the Central Coast that you probably didn't know.
45% of students were Japanese. In the 1930s at a school in Guadalupe, 45% of the 450 students were Japanese Americans.
On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, forcing 120,000 people of Japanese descent—even American citizens—who lived in the Western part of the United States to flee from their homes, separate from their families, and live in detention camps.
